Penny and David Docherty’s Lasting Legacy
Variety Star Shape

For more than four decades, Penny and David Docherty dedicated themselves to making a difference through Variety – The Children’s Charity. Their unwavering passion and generosity have left a profound impact on the organisation and the thousands of children it supports.

Penny’s journey with Variety began 45 years ago when she joined the Ladies of Variety group. Over the years, she became a driving force within the organisation, serving as a volunteer, board member, and Chair (Chief Barker) of the Variety NSW/ACT board, as well as holding key roles at Variety Australia and Variety International.

Beyond leadership, Penny’s enthusiasm extended to the Variety B to B Bash, where she not only participated as an entrant and official but also convinced her husband, David, to join the adventure. Overall, they took part in 22 Variety Bashes, raising vital funds for kids along the way.

Penny was known for her exceptional ability to bring people together for a cause. Her tireless efforts in corporate fundraising and major events helped transform the lives of countless children in need.

Sadly, Penny passed away in 2024. But her legacy lives on. David is honouring her lifelong commitment to Variety by pledging a gift in his Will, ensuring that their shared passion for helping children continues for generations to come.

“Penny and I always believed in giving back. Including Variety in our Will was our way of ensuring vulnerable children continue to get the support they need. It’s comforting to know our legacy will live on, changing lives for years to come.” – David Docherty

Leaving a gift in your Will is a simple yet powerful way to create lasting change. By joining David and Penny in their generosity, you too can help shape a brighter future for children in need.
